Sovtek 6L6WXT+ Power Tube

This Sovtek 6L6WXT+ is modeled after the vintage RCA 6L6GC “Black plate”.

This 6L6 tube features larger plate dimensions and improved grid structure for increased power handling capabilities. It also features mica spacers with metal springs to eliminate tube rattle and microphonics.

Sovtek claims it has 20 percent higher output than their 5881WXT.

A bit about the 6L6

Radio Corporation of America (RCA) introduced the 6L6 vacuum tube in mid 1936, it was widely used in many applications, military included. It quickly found popularity in guitar amplifiers. The original 6L6 valve was contained within a black metal tube or casing.

There have been many revisions over the years. Other versions of the 6L6 valve included the 6L6G, 6L6GA, 6L6GB, and the final version which was the 6L6GC – these all had glass envelopes.

As well when used by the US military the “W” was added to the suffix: 6L6WGA, 6L6WGB, and 6L6WGC.
