Tung Sol 12AX7 Preamp Tube
The Tung Sol 12AX7 Preamp Tube has a big, warm and musical sound that can help to improve the tone of any musical instrument amp as well as any Hi-Fi amp. With high-gain, low microphonics and superb linearity with a dynamic 3-D sound, this 12AX7 is sure to make your rig sound its best.
Why should I use a Tung Sol 12AX7?
The Tung Sol 12AX7 has the gain and drive of a Chinese 12AX7 and the pure tone of a Mullard or Brimar. It provides a rich tone, with a chime-like clarity, and a nice smooth overdriven sound when pushed hard. The Tung Sol 12AX7 provides clear bottom end, and clear high end without being harsh or piercing, and smooth mids.
Is the ECC83 the same as the 12AX7?
The 12AX7 and the ECC83 are the same tube, just a different name. They are a 9 pin, dual-triode tube. This means they are two triode tubes in the one tube, so there are two gain stages in the one tube. This helps amplify the signal from the guitar or input, and is particularly useful for modern high gain amps where both gain stages in the 12AX7 can be used to drive the amp hard.
Can I use a different tube in place of a 12AX7?
Various tubes can be substituted where a 12AX7 is called for. Tubes such as the 12AT7, 12AU7, 12AY7, and 5751 are all 9 pin tubes that will fit into your preamp sockets and give you different gain factors which can change the characteristics of your amp.
